Fulbert Youlou was a laicized priest. A laicized priest is a Roman Catholic priest who has resigned from the priesthood, usually for personal or health reasons. Laicization can also be used to describe a priest who has been removed from the priesthood by a church authority. Youlou was laicized in 1958, and he went on to become the first president of the Republic of the Congo.
