Gary Payton began his NBA career in 1990. He was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics with the second overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft. Payton quickly became a key player for the SuperSonics, helping them reach the NBA Finals in 1996. He was a nine-time NBA All-Star and was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1996.
