George Monck died on 3 January 1670 at his home in Great Castle Street, Westminster, London. He had been ill for some time and was suffering from a fever and dysentery. He was 67 years old. Monck was buried in Westminster Abbey on 11 January 1670. His funeral was a state occasion and was attended by King Charles II, the Duke of York, and many other members of the nobility.
