Answer
George Monck supported the restoration of King Charles II to the throne. Monck was a military leader who had served under Oliver Cromwell, but he eventually became disillusioned with the Commonwealth and its rule. He helped to bring about the Restoration by leading his troops into London in 1660. Monck was rewarded for his role in the Restoration by being made Duke of Albemarle.
