Gerald Gardner was a British occultist who is considered to be one of the founders of modern Wicca. He used the craft name Scire, which means "to know" in Latin. Gardner was a prolific author and his writings on Wicca have been influential in the development of the religion. He also founded the first Wiccan coven, the New Forest Coven, in 1951.
