In 1998, the remains of the Romanov family, the last imperial family of Russia, were finally laid to rest in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg. The remains had been discovered in 1991 in a forest outside Yekaterinburg, where the Romanovs were executed in 1918 during the Russian Revolution.
