Du Fay was invited to Rome in 1427 by the Papal choir to be their director. He was appointed maestro di cappella in 1434, and served in this role until 1437. During his time in Rome, Du Fay composed a number of works for the Papal choir, including the Missa Pro Papa Martino, which was written in honor of Pope Martin V.
