Bismarck and Prinz Eugen were the two battleships in Admiral Günther Lütjens' task force during Operation Rheinübung in 1941. Their mission was to raid Allied shipping in the Atlantic Ocean. The task force sailed from Germany on May 18, 1941, and sank the British battlecruiser HMS Hood on May 24. However, the task force was eventually tracked down and sunk by the British Royal Navy on May 27.
