Answer
Sigismund III Vasa, who became King of Poland in 1587, claimed the Swedish throne through his mother, who was the sister of King John III of Sweden. Gustavus Adolphus, who became King of Sweden in 1611, opposed Sigismund's claim to the Swedish throne, and the two kings fought a dynastic struggle for control of Sweden.
