Farouk I ascended to the throne at the age of 18. He was the son of the previous monarch, Fuad I, who died in 1936. Farouk was a young and inexperienced ruler, and his reign was marked by political instability and economic problems. In 1952, a military coup overthrew Farouk and he was forced to abdicate. He lived in exile until his death in 1965.
