Henry III was born on 28 October 1016, in Fécamp, Normandy, France. He was the son of Robert the Magnificent, Duke of Normandy, and Emma of Normandy, the daughter of King Ethelred II of England. Henry was the grandson of William the Conqueror, who had conquered England in 1066. Henry's father died when he was just three years old, and he became Duke of Normandy at the age of eight.
