Henry IV reached adulthood in 1065, when he was 17 years old. He was born in 1048 and was the son of William the Conqueror and his wife Matilda of Flanders. Henry was a capable ruler and was able to maintain control of the English throne despite the challenges he faced. He was also a patron of the arts and literature and is credited with founding the University of Oxford.
