Hilda Solis is an American politician who has served as the United States Secretary of Labor since 2009. She was the first Hispanic American and the first Latina woman to hold the position. Solis was born in Los Angeles, California, to Nicaraguan and Mexican parents. She attended California State University, Northridge, where she earned a degree in social work.
