Ike Turner discovered Howlin' Wolf in 1951. Turner was a blues musician and record producer who owned a recording studio in Memphis, Tennessee. He heard Wolf singing on a street corner and was impressed by his powerful voice and stage presence. Turner offered Wolf a recording contract, and Wolf's first single, "Moanin' at Midnight," was released in 1951.
