During World War II, Pierlot was Prime Minister of Belgium. He was against King Leopold III, who had been captured by the Germans and made a puppet leader of the country. Pierlot and the other members of the Belgian government went into exile in London and continued to fight against the Germans. They returned to Belgium after the war and Pierlot became Prime Minister again.
