Before becoming Prime Minister, Pierlot was a jurist. He was born in Namur, Belgium in 1883 and attended the University of Liège, where he studied law. He practiced law in Namur from 1908 to 1914, and then served as a soldier in World War I. After the war, he returned to his law practice and became involved in politics.
