Hugo Grotius was born in Delft, the Netherlands in 1583. He was a jurist, philosopher, and theologian, and is considered to be one of the founders of international law. Grotius's most famous work is De Jure Belli ac Pacis ("On the Law of War and Peace"), which was published in 1625.
