Festus Mogae was the second president of Botswana. He was president from 1998 to 2008, and was succeeded by Ian Khama. Mogae was a member of the Botswana Democratic Party, and was first elected president in 1998. He was re-elected in 2004. During his presidency, Mogae oversaw significant economic growth in Botswana, and also oversaw the country's transition to a multi-party democracy.
