The Abuja Treaty was signed on October 20, 1991, during the rule of Ibrahim Babangida. It was signed by 19 African countries and aimed to create a single economic market in Africa. The treaty also established the African Economic Community, which was supposed to oversee the implementation of the treaty. However, the treaty has not been fully implemented and the African Economic Community has not been very successful.
