General Ibrahim Babangida's program to return Nigeria to civilian rule was called the Transition to Civil Rule. It was launched in 1985, and was scheduled to end in 1993. However, the program was marred by corruption and violence, and Babangida eventually annulled the 1993 presidential election, which had been won by Moshood Abiola.
