Roger Mortimer was a Welsh baron who was married to Isabella, the sister of Edward II of England. When Edward was deposed in 1327, Isabella and Mortimer became joint rulers of England. Mortimer was speculated to be Isabella's illicit companion, and he was eventually executed for treason in 1330.
