Isoroku Yamamoto's grave is located on Bougainville Island in Papua New Guinea. Yamamoto was the commander-in-chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. He was killed in an air attack on his plane while flying over Bougainville Island on April 18, 1943. Yamamoto's body was recovered and buried on the island.
