J. Howard Moore (1869-1940) was an American educator and mathematician. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended the University of Chicago, where he received a Ph.D. in mathematics in 1894. He taught at the University of Chicago from 1894 to 1904, and then at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1904 to 1940. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
