Who was James Scott's mother?

  • Lucy Walter

  • Anne Hyde

  • Catherine of Braganza

  • Mary of Modena

Answer

Lucy Walter, a Welsh noblewoman, was the mother of James Scott, the Duke of Monmouth and illegitimate son of King Charles II of England. Walter's relationship with the king was brief, and she died in poverty in 1658, shortly after James' birth. Despite his illegitimacy, James was acknowledged by his father and raised in the royal court.
