Jan Železný was born in Mladá Boleslav, Czechia on 26 June 1966. He is a retired Czech javelin thrower who won gold medals at the 1992, 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He also won the World Championship in Athletics in 1993, 1995 and 1997. He set the world record for the javelin throw four times, with his best throw of 98.48 metres coming in 1996.
