The Cordeliers section of Paris was home to the Commune leadership. The Commune was a radical socialist government that ruled Paris from 18 March to 28 May 1871. It was the result of the defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War and the Paris Commune Uprising. The Commune leadership was made up of members of the International Workingmen's Association, who were committed to a revolutionary socialist program.
