Jigme Singye Wangchuck was born on 11 November 1955. He is the fourth King of Bhutan, reigning from 1972 to 2006. During his reign, he oversaw Bhutan's transition to a constitutional monarchy and introduced a number of reforms, including the establishment of a National Assembly and the legalization of political parties. He is also known for his promotion of Gross National Happiness as a measure of development.
