Joseph Lieberman was born on February 24, 1942 in Stamford, Connecticut. He was the first Jewish American to serve as a major party vice presidential nominee. Lieberman served as a U.S. senator from Connecticut from 1989 to 2013, and as a member of the Democratic Party until he became an independent in 2006.
