The Franklin Expedition, named after its leader Sir John Franklin, was a British naval expedition that set out in 1845 to explore the Arctic and find a Northwest Passage. The expedition consisted of two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, and a crew of 129 men. The expedition became trapped in ice in Victoria Strait and all of its members perished.
