Answer
French-American ornithologist and painter John James Audubon was born in Haiti to a French sea captain and a Creole woman. He spent much of his childhood in France, where he developed a passion for nature. In 1803, he moved to the United States, where he became a citizen in 1812. Audubon's iconic work, "The Birds of America," is a collection of over 400 life-size paintings of North American birds.
