Vice President Andrew Johnson was not attacked by John Wilkes Booth, who was a Confederate sympathizer who assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Booth had originally planned to capture Lincoln and take him to Richmond, Virginia, but when that plan failed, he shot Lincoln at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C., on April 14, 1865.
