José Antonio Primo de Rivera tried to end the Spanish Civil War by attempting to negotiate a peace treaty between the Republican government and the Nationalist rebels. He met with Republican leader Manuel Azaña in Paris in February 1937, but the talks failed. Primo de Rivera was executed by the Republicans in November 1936.
