Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer was born on 9 January 1902 in Barbastro, Spain. He was a Catholic priest and the founder of Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2002.
