Stilwell's failings contributed to the loss of China. He was a rigid and inflexible man who did not get along with his Chinese allies. He was also unable to work effectively with Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Chinese Nationalists. As a result, he was unable to coordinate the Chinese and American forces and the Japanese were able to overrun China.
