Dian Fossey's educational background was in occupational therapy. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from San Jose State College in 1954. After working as an occupational therapist for several years, she decided to pursue her passion for wildlife conservation. She traveled to Africa in 1963 and began her groundbreaking work with mountain gorillas in Rwanda.
