Answer
During the rule of Argentine dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas, France and Great Britain jointly retaliated against Argentine expansionism by sending naval forces to blockade the River Plate. This was done in response to Rosas's support of French rebels in Uruguay and his refusal to accept British demands to end his attacks on foreign shipping. The blockade lasted for two years and caused severe economic damage to Argentina.
