Kakuei Tanaka was a Japanese politician who was a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. He served as Prime Minister of Japan from 1972 to 1974, and was the first person from a non-aristocratic background to hold the position. Tanaka was also a member of the House of Representatives from 1947 to 1985.
