Kary Mullis, an American biochemist, passed away on August 7, 2019 at the age of 74. He was best known for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), a method for amplifying DNA. Mullis won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1993 for his work on PCR.
