Konrad Emil Bloch was a German-American biochemist who shared the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Feodor Lynen for his work on the metabolism of cholesterol and fatty acids. Bloch was born in Neisse, Germany, on January 21, 1912, to a Jewish family. He studied chemistry at the University of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1934.
