Mette Frederiksen, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, formed and sworn the next government in 2019, when Lars Løkke Rasmussen resigned as Prime Minister. Frederiksen had been the leader of the opposition since 2015, and her party won a plurality of seats in the 2019 general election. She became the first female prime minister of Denmark.
