Constantine I ordered Licinius' execution after Licinius was defeated in the Battle of Chrysopolis. Licinius had previously been Constantine's co-emperor, but the two men had become rivals. After the Battle of Chrysopolis, Constantine took control of the eastern half of the Roman Empire, while Licinius was forced to abdicate and was later executed.
