Emanuele Conegliano, later known as Lorenzo Da Ponte, was an Italian poet, librettist, and Roman Catholic priest. Born into a Jewish family in Ceneda, Italy, he converted to Catholicism at the age of 14 and took the name Lorenzo Da Ponte. He is best known for his librettos for Mozart's operas "The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Giovanni," and "Così fan tutte."
