Lothair I was a Frankish King who ruled the Middle Kingdom of the Carolingian Empire from 817 to 855. He was the son of Louis the Pious and his second wife, Judith of Bavaria. Lothair was a strong ruler who was able to maintain the unity of the Middle Kingdom despite the many challenges he faced. He was also a patron of the arts and literature.
