In which year was the monarchy abolished and Louis XVI deposed?

  • 1792

  • 1795

  • 1804

  • 1814

Answer

In 1792, the monarchy was abolished and Louis XVI was deposed. The French Revolution had begun in 1789 with the storming of the Bastille, and by 1792 the revolutionary government had become increasingly radical. In August of that year, the National Convention abolished the monarchy and declared France to be a republic. Louis XVI was tried and executed for treason in January 1793.
