Louis XVIII, King of France from 1814 to 1824, was nicknamed "Le Désiré" ("The Desired One") because he was the eldest surviving son of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. He was forced to abdicate after the French Revolution and lived in exile in England until Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo in 1815. Louis XVIII then returned to France and was restored to the throne.
