Luc Montagnier was a French virologist who won the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). He was also a member of the French Academy of Sciences and a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States. It is unknown how many languages Montagnier could speak, but he was known to be fluent in French and English.
