Luc Montagnier was born on 18 August 1932 in Chabris, France. He is a French virologist and Nobel laureate who co-discovered the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi in 1983. He is also known for his research on retroviruses and the role they play in cancer.
