During Magnus's reign, Norway moved closer to the European church model. This was due in part to Magnus's efforts to strengthen the church's authority and to bring Norway into line with other European countries. Magnus also established a number of new bishoprics and monasteries, and he encouraged the spread of Christianity throughout the country.
