Born in Tourcoing, France, Marcel Lefebvre was a French prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as the Archbishop of Tulle from 1947 to 1962 and then as the Superior General of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X from 1970 until his death in 1991. He was a strong traditionalist and opposed many of the changes that occurred in the Church following the Second Vatican Council.
