Margaret of Valois was born in 1553. She was the daughter of King Henry II of France and Catherine de Medici. Margaret was married to Henry of Navarre, who later became King Henry IV of France. Margaret was a strong supporter of the Protestant cause and was involved in the French Wars of Religion. She was also a patron of the arts and literature. Margaret died in 1615.
